Survivors 12/14

Over the last two days, we have lost one runt from the first litter, and a blue from the second litter. The first died because it was to small/weak to survive and feed. The second, because it was crushed by it's mother. Stupid first-time mothers!

In other news, Homer and Jezebel are both blue carriers!

Finally!

Ok, the other doe has finally had her litter! We were expecting them on Friday, but got them this morning (between 1AM and 7AM). For future reference, the gestation time on rabbits varies from 28 to 34 days, with the average being 31. Thank you Storey's "Raising Rabbits"!

After everything was said and done, it looks like the doe's second round of breedings worked, but not the first round.

6 healthy kits popped out, bringing the total to 14!

Great American Drift

Nothing definite yet, but there is talk of a cross country rabbit exchange for American Blue and White Rabbits. We're hopefully going to be part of this. Go to the Yahoo American Drift Group for more info.
No news on the upcoming Silver Fox litters. The does seem placid as can be, which usually means they're a couple days off. They haven't even been pulling fur yet. Then again, we've had angora that just never pulled any fur (stupid does).

Nest Box Countdown

We've got two litters due in the next couple days. So we're going to be doing yet another round of all-nighters. More new on that as it develops.
For reference, the Sire is "Homer", our herdsire. As soon as the paperwork comes in, he'll be a Grand Champion, as he's already registered, with 3 Legs on the table.
The does, are nice too, both registered and from decent lines. We're thinking that about 10 kits should pop out this time.

Upcoming Show

I'm very excited to say that we're going to the PaSRBA state show tomorrow. We should be taking Silver Foxes and Satin Angora for judging. Some Satin Angora will be available for purchase as either show rabbits or brood stock (at least one Red Sr. Doe). If we're lucky, we'll be coming home with some all new foundation stock for some American Blues. Pictures and updates on Sunday (hopefully).
